Services
We love building custom furniture, but we do other things too. Below you will find a list of other services that we are able to provide in addition to or instead of furniture.
Dimensioning and Planing
One of the biggest barriers to entry for potential woodworkers is having the access or funds to buy the machinery to mill sawn lumber into finished boards; we want to remove that barrier. Since our shop is already set up to efficiently mill lumber, it only seemed right to offer that opportunity to someone that wants to step into the wide world of woodworking but doesn’t have the space or resources to buy milling equipment.
Note: Wood is a natural material that responds to humidity and temperature. This means that even after lumber is milled, it still responds to a change in environment (i.e. moving from our shop to yours). We mill our lumber in two stages to ensure that it will be as stable as possible once it is returned to you.
Maximum board width is 16”
Minimum Charge $40
S2S (Both faces of board planed)- $1.25/ft
1 flat face+1 square edge - $1.50/ft.
S3S (Both Faces +1 edge)- $2.00/ft
S4S (Both faces +both edges) - $2.50/ft
Re-hafting/ Re-handling
Have a favorite tool that the handle broke on or want a differently shaped or sized handle? Bring us your tool and we will fit a new handle for you!
Split parts/ Green wood blanks
Furniture parts that are able to be “riven” or split out from a log follow the grain exactly and are extremely strong. These parts are also able to be shaved or planed in either direction because of the continuous grain, resulting in virtually no tear-out in the grain. used primarily in chairs, stools and table legs, these blanks can also be a great option for turning on a wood lathe or as handle billets for anything from axes to chisels.
Free Resources
Woodworking is such a vast field with so much written about it and so many opinions to sift through, but don’t fear; we are here to help you! If a specific historical topic interests you, we can help you locate the books, articles, and classes to learn a new craft. Historic furniture making is disappearing, but we want to try and reverse that trend.
Have a Special Request?
If you don’t see something we can help you with in the list above, feel free to ask if we are able to provide the service you are looking for. We love trying new things, but we also have a network of other craftsmen and trades workers that we can connect you with if there is someone who will be able to help in a better way.
